2009 Pinot
Nouveau
Whisson Lake Pinot
Nouveau is the uplifted essence of Pinot Noir, bottled soon after
harvest for intense fruit vibrancy. Like all Whisson Lake wines,
Pinot Nouveau is made entirely from Pinot Noir grapes (we only grow
Pinot Noir) sourced from our high altitude vineyard at Carey Gully,
deep in the heart of the Adelaide Hills.SOLD OUT! Grapes for
Pinot Nouveau 2010 will be picked in the next week or so (week
commencing 15 March 2010) and the wine, we hope, will be ready for
bottling by June 2010. RRP$25
2008 Black
Label
The 2008 Black Label
"Pinot Noir" replaces "Pinot Gaz", of which the last vintage was
2006 - but the style objective remains the same: high quality,
estate-grown Pinot Noir for early drinking. And 2008 provided
exactly the kind of hot weather that favours the making of such
wine. The fruit characteristics in this 2008 are exotically ripe
with black fruit coulis replacing the cooler year black cherry
aromas. Also making a hot-year appearance are notes of coconut and
vanilla. The palate has a liqueur-like viscosity but the trademark
Whisson Lake tannin structure pulls tight and dry on the finish to
make this still a good companion to the richer meats such as lamb
and duck. Or try in simple combination with spiced charcuterie for
a deluxe ploughman's snack! SOLD OUT! Black Label 2009
will be bottled and ready for sale in April 2010.
RRP$30.
2007 White
Label
Our 2007 White Label is an
unashamedly Old World wine destined for the true Pinot fanatics.
Where the 2005s were a cornucopia overflowing with sensuous ripe
fruit, in 2007 it is Pinot Noir’s savoury personality that comes to
the fore. The aromas are from the earthy and mineral end of the
spectrum and they take you on an odyssey through the dark side of
Pinot Noir - blackberries, truffle, earth, forest floor: this is as
deep and dark as Pinot gets!. The palate is taught as a violin
string and the tannins build to a firm crescendo. The alcohol is
low and the acid deliberate. It is a wine that will unwind the full
breadth of it's personality over the next ten years. Only for Pinot
aficionado’s... Sold out! White Label 2009 is
going into bottle today! (18.4.2010). Tasting notes to
follow.
